Dan Connolly is a self-taught photographic artist who uses the camera as a brush, displaying seascapes, landscapes, urban architecture, and abstracts as evocations, rather than as representations.
His photography is an elemental distillation that conveys the energy of a subject or scene in a fresh way. Deflecting the mind's tendency to dwell on the concrete, these images embrace the spirit of a place or an object and encourage an emotional or metaphorical response. Using color, shape, and line as gateways to provoke, these images are psychogeographical emblems of locale and meaning. He occasionally incorporates alternative textures in the form of metal and encaustic processes in combination with photography.
