Elizabeth Lee
Artist inspired by sunken ships and long-lost treasure. Expressing her aesthetic with brass, copper, silver, gold, stones and resourced vintage materials into wearable art. She likes metal, worn metal, metal that has changed color and shape, vintage pearls and chains, stones that are ocean'esque, mystery and possibilities, mistakes, bravery, grace, and the knowing that there are always forces bigger than ourselves. Reminiscent of the grit and the grace of the sea.
Beth McLacklan has always had the desire to take her work as a metalsmith/artist into a professional realm. Two years ago, she began working for a jeweler and the unfolding of this inner aspiration began to come to fruition. Originally, just wanting to learn, soak in knowledge, and play with metal her intention has morphed into something all its own. A little business she calls Elizabeth Lee. She works out of a small studio in her house in Rochester, MA, and is also a part time Studiomate at Metalwerx in Waltham, MA.
She is not looking to recreate the wheel; rather she desires to create wearable and predominately recycled art that claims a lineage between what is old and new. She hopes her pieces inspire a pause and conjures up an idea of something lost but not forgotten. Funneling her aesthetic as both a metalsmith and an upcylcer with a driven belief in marrying the two. Reusing and repurposing materials is very important to her especially as she has progressed as a metalsmith. She likes to push herself to use what she has and to step away from the mindset that a purchase of a certain stone or metal is going to bring more value to her art. The work that lies closest to her heart comes from creating with cast off and unwanted materials. Worn but nonetheless brilliant.
